WFUMB is a Federation of Affiliated Organizations consisting of Regional Federations and National Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.
The Regional Federations cover National Societies of Ultrasound in Asia (AFSUMB), Europe (EFSUMB), Latin America (FLAUS) and Africa (MASU). National Societies cover North America (AIUM), and Australasia (ASUM). Individual members of the National Societies are physicians, scientists, engineers and ultrasonographers. The total number of individual members is presently more than 43,000. WFUMB is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) in official relation with WHO.
The Federation is governed by an Administrative Council which meets once each year. There are specialist Committees covering many areas of interest to the Federation.
The Federation has the following main activities:
WFUMB organizes World Congresses in Ultrasound every three years covering the whole field of diagnostic ultrasound.
As a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) in official relation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), WFUMB and WHO currently collaborate on various education programs by organizing and sponsoring courses and working for the creation of Education centers and education and reference material.
WFUMB sponsors congresses and courses in certain situations.
WFUMB organises and sponsors workshops on Safety of Ultrasound in Medicine, and reports are published in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.
